Bulgaria advanced to the quarterfinals at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia. Led by their Serbian coach Dragan Nesic, the Bulgarians claimed a convincing victory over the United States by a score of 3-0 (25-23 25-16 25-15), which took them to the next phase, where they will play the winners in the match between Poland and Puerto Rico.

In the match against the US, Bulgaria got off to a strong start and took a 10-7 point lead, but then their opponents levelled 13-13. Several straight points brought the score to 20-15 in the Bulgarians’ favour, almost giving them the first-set victory, but the Americans narrowed to 24-23 after saving the first set point. The Bulgarians converted the second set point to win the opening part of the match.

Bulgaria dominated the second set as well and took a 22-15 lead, eventually winning 25-16. In the third set, they took a 20-9 lead and had no problem winning the set and the match.

The top scorer was Iva Dudova, who earned 14 points in the match, ahead of Viktoria Koeva with 13 points. Henley Anderson scored the most points (10) for the US side.
