Bulgaria’s Radoslav Yankov finished sixth in the parallel giant slalom at the Snowboard World Cup in Rogla, Slovenia, on Saturday.
As the only Bulgarian to advance past the qualification stage, Yankov defeated South Korea’s Kim Sang-kyum in the first start of the main competition. However, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Austria’s Olympic champion Benjamin Karl.
This is the seventh time this season that Yankov has made it to the top 8 at a World Cup event. Last week, he secured third place in the World Cup race held in Bansko, Southwestern Bulgaria.
The other four Bulgarians competing in Rogla failed to qualify for the main event. Tervel Zamfirov finished 23rd, Alexander Krashniak 36th, Kristian Georgiev 39th, and Petar Gergyovski 42nd.
Italy’s Maurizio Bormolini won the men’s parallel giant slalom, with Germany’s Elias Huber finishing second and Italy's Aaron March taking the third place.
In the overall men’s World Cup standings, Bormolini leads with 605 points, followed by Austria’s Andreas Prommegger with 534 points, and Italy’s Gabriel Messner with 471 points. Yankov holds fourth place with 454 points.
In the small crystal globe standings for the parallel giant slalom discipline, Yankov is currently in second place with 366 points, behind Bormolini, who leads with 447 points. Prommegger is third with 330 points.
In the women’s event, Japan’s Tsubaki Miki took first place, followed by Austria’s Sabine Payer in second and Italy’s Elisa Caffont in third. Bulgaria’s Malena Zamfirova finished 25th.
