Bulgarian Grandmaster Ivan Cheparinov scored three victories in a day at the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, which is held on Wall Street in New York December 26-28. First Cheparinov lost with the black pieces to Mahammad Muradli of Azerbaijan, but then won successive victories over Ukraine’s Viktor Matviishen, Russia’s Ivan Zemlyanskii and Italy’s Luca Moroni. The Bulgarian thus climbed to 52nd place in the standings on 5.5 points.
In the women's tournament, Nadia Toncheva, who is highest in the standings, takes 54th position after the second day. Toncheva lost to China's Qian Huang with the black pieces, but then prevailed over Armenia's Mariam Mkrtchyan and drew with Josefine Heinemann of Germany and Nana Dzagnidze of Georgia. The Bulgarian has 4 points.
Gergana Peycheva, who had an excellent start, conceded two games today, recording two draws - against China's Yuxin Song and Jennifer Yu of the USA, but lost to Meruert Kamalidenova of Kazakhstan, as well as Serbia's Teodora Injac. Peycheva is currently ranked 74th.
Beloslava Krasteva is 90th in the standings, on 3 points. She defeated Anjum Noshin of Bangladesh and Ashley Alexandra Castillo Beitia of Panama, but lost to Estonia's Mai Narva as well as Liwia Jarocka of Poland.
The women's event will be played in 11 rounds, while the men's tournament is in 13 rounds.
