Bulgaria’s Magomed Ramazanov reached the semifinals in the men’s 86 kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics on Thursday. 

Ramazanov, who is No. 5 seed in the event, defeated Asia’s vice champion Javrail Shapiev of Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals, achieving victory by fall 39 seconds into the second period.

Earlier on Thursday, the 31-year-old Russian, who represents Bulgaria, won his Olympic debut match in the round of 16 in the event, defeating Canadian Robert Moore by technical superiority and a final score of 12-2 after 4 minutes and 27 seconds on the mat.

Ramazanov will face 24-year-old Aaron Brooks (USA) in the semifinals later Thursday.
