Bulgarian tennis talent Iva Ivanova qualified Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the girls' singles draw at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year - the Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia. The Bulgarian won 7:5, 4:6, 6:4 against Aspen Schuman of the USA.
Ivanova managed to stage a comeback from 2:4 in the deciding set. This was her third consecutive victory at the tournament. She will face the 12th seeded Mingge Xu (UK) in the quarterfinals.
Anas Mazdrashki lost 1:6, 6:3, 3:6 in a close match against the second seed in the tournament Nikolai Budkov Kjaer. In the previous days, the Bulgarian scored four consecutive wins without losing a set - two in the main draw and two in the qualifiers.
Ioana Konstantinova was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the girls' doubles. The Bulgarian and Serbian Teodora Kostovic lost 2:6, 4:6 to the third seeded Americans Tyra Grant and Iva Jovic.
The Bulgarians in Australia are coached by Serafim Grozev.
