Bulgaria at the Olympics:
Boryana Kalein Qualifies for Rhythmic
Gymnastics Final, Katrin Taseva Ranks 14th

Tokyo, August 6 (BTA special correspondent Dimiter Velyov) - Boryana Kalein qualified for the final of the individual
all-around at the Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament at the Tokyo
Olympics.

She finished eighth in the qualifiers, which were attended by 26 gymnasts, but only the first 10 qualified for the finals.

The other Bulgarian, Katrin Taseva, ranked 14th and will not participate in the final on Saturday.

Kalein scored a total of 95,650 points after receiving scores of 24,100 in hoop, 25,800 in ball, 26,600 in clubs and 19,150 in ribbon. She made more significant mistakes in her hoop and ribbon compositions, with the latter being reviewed on video by the judges.

Taseva, who announced that she would end her career after the 2021 Olympics, finished 14th with a total of 91,100 points. She was rated with 24,450 points in hoop, 24,600 in ball, 24,400 in clubs and 17,650 in ribbon. Her most significant mistakes were in the ribbon composition.

Kalein said that the long pause between the individual routines affected her performance as the additional effort to warm up proved to be tiring and distracting. She noted that its the first time competitions are performed in this configuration and the participants did their best under the circumstances.

Kalein's participation in the Olympics in Tokyo is a childhood dream come true for her. "Ever since I can remember as a competitor, I have always said that I want to take part in the Olympics. This happened today, which makes me very happy. On the other hand, it was a very difficult competition. I hope to show what I can do tomorrow, to perform my routines as only I can," said Kalein.
