Energy security and geopolitics are at the centre of discussions at the five-day Green Transition Forum 5.0: Powering Up Competitiveness and Innovation in Central and Eastern European Region" after the first day's debates focused on economic transformation and competitiveness, according to the organizers from the Green Transition Forum and Dir.bg. BTA is a media partner.

A speech by European Council President Antonio Costa is also scheduled for the day.

Participants in the forum dedicated to the green transition include European commissioners, ministers, MEPs, a Nobel Prize winner, and top managers of global corporations.

Participants will discuss everything related to the green transition – from competitiveness and energy security through sustainable financing, clean industry and digitalisation to the blue and circular economy, cybersecurity, smart cities, agri-innovation and women's entrepreneurship.

Among the topics to be covered on the second day of the forum will be interconnector networks and energy storage, and expected speakers include Bulgarian Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov and Deputy Director for Environment at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Kumi Kitamori.

As part of the forum, Nobel Prize winner Prof. Daron Acemoglu will give a public lecture entitled “Who Will Own the Future?” and a master class on the future of the economy. In an era where artificial intelligence and automation are challenging traditional labour markets, Prof. Acemoglu will outline the dark and bright sides of technological progress. Through the prism of his iconic research (“Why Nations Fail”, “Power and Progress”), he will explore the topics: Social inequality: Where do machines enrich, and where do they alienate? Institutional reforms: How do the rules of the game determine who will benefit from the digital revolution? Tomorrow's labour markets: What skills will we value when algorithms become our bosses?
