The government on Monday approved a strategy for government debt management for the period 2025-2028, based on the Government Debt Act and Public Finance Act, the Government Information Service said Monday.

It sets out the guiding principles and policy directions for government debt management over the next four years, while outlining the indicative measures and instruments to be used to achieve the strategic objectives. The time horizon of the strategy has been extended to 4 years in the context of the adoption of the revised EU economic governance framework. It is based on the assumptions on the required debt financing and the public debt parameters under which the State Budget Bill for 2025 and an Updated Medium-Term Budget Forecast for the period 2025-2028 were prepared.

The main objective of debt management remains unchanged that is to provide the necessary means to refinance the outstanding debt, finance the planned government budget deficit and secure the liquidity position of the fiscal reserve.
