Bulgaria’s Exports of Goods to EU Down by 3.6% in Jan - Sep, Imports - by 5.4%

In the period January - September 2024, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 3.6% compared to the same period of 2023 and amounted to BGN 40.590 billion, while the imports of goods from the EU decreased by 5.4% and amounted to BGN 40.817 billion, the National Statistical Institute said Thursday.

In September 2024, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 5.0% compared to the same month of 2023 and amounted to BGN 4.350 billion.

NSI data shows that for the same period of 2023, exports from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 7.3% compared to the same period of 2022 and amounted to BGN 42.162 billion, as the main trading partners of the country were the same with a share of 61.2% of exports to EU member states. In September 2023, exports to the EU decreased by 13.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 4.575 billion. 

Imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in the period January - September 2024 decreased by 5.4% in comparison with the same period of 2023 and is worth to BGN 40.817 billion (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, and Poland. 

In September 2024, the imports from the EU decreased by 1.7% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached BGN 4.528 billion.

Imports to Bulgaria from the EU in the same period of 2023 compared to the first nine months of 2022 also decreased by 1.8% to BGN 43.117 billion (at CIF prices). In September 2023, Bulgaria's imports from EU member states decreased by 11.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 4.598 billion. 

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in the period January - September 2024 was negative and added up to BGN 227.3 million, and in the same period of 2023 the balance was also negative, but worth BGN 954.8 million.
