site.btaBulgaria to Have Higher Quota for Catching Turbot, Agriculture Ministry Says
Over the next four years, Bulgaria will be able to fish 82.5 tonnes of turbot annually, a 10% increase on the current quota. The same quota has also been set for Romania, where both countries were previously allowed to catch 75 tonnes per year. This was announced during the 47th annual meeting of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) in Rome, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said on Friday.
The increase achieved is the second in the last five years and responds to the long-standing implementation of conservation measures. The aim is to create an incentive for fisheries operators to continue their efforts to achieve a level of fishing consistent with maximum sustainable yield.
In the Black Sea, decisions were taken to continue existing measures for sprat and spiny dogfish. Measures to protect the stock of carp will also continue, as will the introduction of a complete ban on fishing for sturgeon species.
Future actions aimed at sustainable investment in aquaculture, increasing the effectiveness of controls, decarbonisation and climate change were also discussed.
