A slight increase in the prices of some staple food commodities, fruits and vegetables was observed over the outgoing week, State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets data showed on Sunday. The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.62% to 2.124 points in the outgoing week, the Commission said. Last week, the index stood at 2.111 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Greenhouse cucumbers price fell by 12.3% to BGN 2.49/kg, watermelons fell by 14.7% to BGN 0.50/kg, and lemons fell by 13% to BGN 3.20/kg.

Greenhouse tomatoes also went down by 2.3% to BGN 3.11/kg. The price of green peppers went up by 2.2% to BGN 1.85/kg and red peppers by 0.3% to BGN 2.13/kg.

The price of potatoes increased by 3.4% to BGN 1.20/kg.

Carrots fell by 2.2% to BGN 1.20/kg. Cabbage depreciated by 1.8% to BGN 1.7/kg, onions went up by 2% to BGN 1.13/kg.

The price of bananas appreciated by 1% to BGN 2.74/kg. Grapes rose by 3.8% to BGN 2.44/kg. Apples and melons saw a decrease, apples were sold at BGN 1.57/kg (down by 8.2%) and melons were sold at BGN 1.27/kg (by 0.3%).

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk drops by 0.8% to BGN 11.23/kg, while the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went up by 1.4% to BGN 16.84/kg.

Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) fell by 2.3% to BGN 1.25 for a cup of 400 grammes. The price of fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) depreciated by 1.6% to BGN 2.28 per litre.

The price of chicken went up by 1.6% to BGN 6.36/kg, eggs (size M) went up by 3.2% to BGN 0.32 per piece.

Rice went down by 0.5% to BGN 3.37/kg, lentils by 1.1% to BGN 4.30/kg, and dry common beans went up by 1% to BGN 4.43/kg.

The price of sugar dropped by 0.1% to BGN 1.96/kg. Flour (type 500) was selling at BGN 1.35/kg and oil at BGN 2.89 per litre, appreciating by 2.7% and 2.5%, respectvely. The price of butter from cow’s milk appreciated by 2.1% to BGN 2.90 for a pack of 125 grammes.
