site.btaFood Price Index Up by 0.43% in Second Week of October

A slight increase in the prices of some staple food commodities, fruits and vegetables was observed over the outgoing week, State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets data show.

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.43% to 2.111 points in the outgoing week, the Commission said. Last week, the index stood at 2.102 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 0.8% to BGN 11.36/kg, while the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went down by 0.4% to BGN 16.63/kg.

Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) fell by 1.1% to BGN 1.27 for a cup of 400 grammes. The price of fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) remained unchanged at BGN 2.32 per litre.

The price of chicken went down by 1.9% to BGN 6.25/kg, eggs (size M) depreciated by 0.6% to BGN 0.31 per piece.

Rice rose by 0.2% to BGN 3.37/kg, lentils by 0.8% to BGN 4.41/kg, and dry common beans by 1.8% to BGN 4.35/kg.

The price of sugar dropped by 1.7% to BGN 1.97/kg. Flour (type 500) was selling at BGN 1.31/kg and oil at BGN 2.84 per litre, appreciating by 2.7% each. The price of butter from cow’s milk fell by 0.6% to BGN 2.85 for a pack of 125 grammes.

Greenhouse cucumbers fell by 9.2% to BGN 2.74/kg, and greenhouse tomatoes by 2.7% to BGN 3.19/kg. The price of green peppers went up by 9.5% to BGN 1.85/kg and red peppers by 11.1% to BGN 2.18/kg.

The price of potatoes increased by 1.9% to BGN 1.17/kg. Cabbage appreciated by 5.1% to BGN 1.12/kg, onions by 4% to BGN 1.09/kg. Carrots fell by 2.6% to BGN 1.20/kg.

Melons depreciated by 0.9% to BGN 1.26/kg and lemons by 8.3% to BGN 3.57/kg. Grapes rose by 1.4% to BGN 2.32/kg, watermelons by 9.4% to BGN 0.56/kg, apples by 9.5% to BGN 1.76/kg, and bananas by 0.4% to BGN 2.73/kg.
