site.btaUnemployment Remains Unchanged in Bulgaria, Decreases in EU for First Time in Four Months in August
According to Eurostat, in Bulgaria the unemployment rate remained at 4% of the labour force for the fourth consecutive month in August. In comparison, the unemployment rate was 4.5% in August 2023 and 4.6% in January 2024. This means that the number of unemployed Bulgarians was 136,000 in August in 2023, 141,000 in January and 122,000 in August 2024.
Unemployment among Bulgarians aged between 15 and 24 fell to 11% (13,000 people) of the working-age population in August from 11.7% in July.
In August 2024, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4%, stable compared with July 2024 and down from 6.6% in August 2023. The EU unemployment rate was 5.9% in August 2024, down from 6.0% in July 2024 as well as in August 2023. These figures were published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
There were 13.027 million unemployed people in the EU in August, including 10.925 million euro area residents. Compared with July, the number of unemployed fell by 108,000 in the EU and by 94,000 in the currency area.
Compared to the same month in 2023, unemployment in August this year decreased by 142,000 in the EU and by 233 000 in the euro area.
