"Commercial and Economic Sections must prioritize promoting Bulgarian exports and attracting foreign investments to facilitate an effective economic restructuring, sustainable Bulgarian business development and raising the standard of living in this country," Bulgarian Economy and Industry Minister Petko Nikolov said on Friday during a video conference with all Bulgarian commercial counsellors at the Commercial and Economic Sections of Bulgarian embassies and consulates worldwide, quoted by his Ministry in a press release.

The Government's economic priorities, the manner of improving commercial counsellors' performance and Bulgaria's foreign economic results were on the agenda of the online meeting.

Nikolov said that Commercial and Economic Sections should seek a new proactive approach in identifying new market opportunities so as to revive interest in relocating product lines and services to Bulgaria, especially in high technology and innovation.

As a key objective of his Ministry, he outlined turning the Commercial and Economic Sections into a tangible factor in generating proposals and possible solutions for the implementation of the priorities of Bulgaria's foreign economic, economic and trade policies.

Nikolov also called attention to the need to speed up the processes of Bulgaria's admission to the Schengen Area and its accession to the OECD, which will give a significant impetus to the Bulgarian economy. "Any delay in the full-fledged admission to the Schengen Area will lead to a greater loss of profits for both the Bulgarian and the Romanian economies and the economies in the region," the Economy Minister said.

The participants in the meeting discussed options and tools for a positive positioning of Bulgaria by presenting its advantages. To this end, it was decided to adopt a proactive approach to the country's participation in international exhibitions and fairs by means of national stands and active involvement of Bulgarian business.
