Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bulgaria's non-financial sector increased in 2023 y-o-y, says a report published by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) here on Friday. FDI in the non-financial sector as of 31.12.2023 amounted to EUR 32,566 million at current prices. A previously published NSI report indicates that FDI for 2022 were EUR 29,251.

In 2023 the largest volume of the foreign direct investments was made in Industry sector – EUR 13,527 million. Next by FDI volume was Service sector (Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; Transport, communication and services; Accommodation and food service activities) – EUR 7,793 million. The allocation of investments across sectors was similar in 2022 – EUR 12,822 million for the Industry sector, and EUR 6,837 million for the Service sector.

In the sector Information and communication 1.5% more foreign direct investments were made y-o-y, and in the Construction sector, they decrease by 0.1% in 2023 y-o-y. Investments made in the sector in 2022 were 3.1% higher y-o-y, whereas in the Construction sector, they declined by 0.4%.

The expenditure on acquisition of tangible fixed assets in all sectors of the economy amounted to 33,586 million BGN at current prices, while in 2022 it amounted to BGN 27,471 million.

The largest volume of investments in tangible fixed assets was in the sector of Industry – BGN 9,053 million, followed by Service sector (wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; transport, communication and services; accommodation and food service activities) with 7 749 million BGN, compared to BGN 6.917 million during the previous year, the NSI report says.
