site.btaMore Counterfeit BGN 100 Banknotes Retained in Q2 of 2024, Q/Q

A rise in the number of registered and retained counterfeit banknotes with a denomination of BGN 100 in the second quarter of 2024 is reported in the statistics of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), published on its website on Thursday. The number of countefeit BGN 100 banknotes in the second quarter was 230, compared to 50 in quarter one.

A total of 397 counterfeit banknotes circulating in the currency were registered and retained during the period. 83 of them were of BGN 20 denomination, 74 of BGN 50, and 10 of BGN 10.

According to the data, at the end of July there were 597,617,338 banknotes in circulation in the country. Compared to the end of June, they increased by 1.2% from 590,553,684.

The largest number of banknotes in circulation were again those with a denomination of BGN 50 - 246,511 ,537 pieces, followed by BGN 100 banknotes - 139,045,351 pieces and those with a denomination of BGN 20 - 98,418,811 pieces.

At the end of July, the value of banknotes in circulation in BGN was 29,168,696,605. Against the end of June, the increase was 1.41% from BGN 28,763,197,295.
