The number of newly built residential buildings in Bulgaria in the second quarter of 2024 was 1,039, with a total of 5,090 dwellings in them, according to early estimates by the National Statistical Institute, published on Thursday.

The largest share (77.1%) of the new residential buildings were steel-concrete structures, 18.2% had solid structure, 4.0% had "other" structure, and 0.7% had a panel structure. Houses accounted for 75.5% of newly built residential buildings in the second quarter of 2024, and apartment buildings accounted for 16.0%.

The highest number of new residential buildings in the reporting period was in Plovdiv Region (163 buildings with 607 dwellings in them), followed by Burgas Region (134/1,027), and Varna Region (127/711).

Two-room dwellings predominated, accounting for 39.4% of newbuilt dwellings in the second quarter of 2024. Three-room units were 33.8%. Those with six or more rooms held the lowest share, at 2.8%.

In the second quarter of 2024, the total useful space of newly built dwellings was 430,700 sq m, and the living floor space was 328,200 sq m. The average useful floor space of a newly built dwelling was 84.6 sq m.

The biggest average useful floor space of a newly built dwelling was recorded in the regions of Lovech (168.2 sq m) and Ruse (160.6 sq m), and the smallest, in Vidin (63.0 sq m) and Sofia City (70.8 sq m).
