site.btaFood Price Index Down by 0.57% in One Week

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by decreased by 0.57%  to 2,283 points  over the week, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said on Sunday.

At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the outgoing week, the average wholesale price of imported cucumbers went down by 1.3% to BGN 2.95 per kilogramme. The price of imported tomatoes dropped by 5% to BGN 3.07/kg. Potatoes went up by 0.7% to BGN 1.36/kg.

The price of carrots remained the same at BGN 1.25/kg. The price of imported onions decreased by 7.5% to BGN 1.48/kg. Cabbage prices rose by 6.9% to BGN 1.24/kg, while imported red peppers rose by 7.3% to BGN 4.69/kg.

The price of imported apples decreased by 1.1% to BGN 1.91/kg. The price of lemons remained the same at BGN 2.08/kg. Bananas went up by 1.1% to BGN 2.87/kg, tangerines - by 5.3% to BGN 2.37/kg. Oranges’ prices went down by 1.5% to BGN 2.08/kg.

The price of white brined cheese made from cow's milk decreased  by 1.4% to BGN 10.78/kg while yellow kashkaval cheese, type Vitosha, went by 1.1% to BGN 16.90/kg.

The price of yoghurt, with a fat content of 3% and over, was selling at BGN 1.13 for a cup of 400 g, down by 0.9%. The price of fresh milk, with 3% fat content, remained the same at BGN 2.25/litre.

The average wholesale price of chicken decreased by 0.5% to BGN 6.33/kg, the price of eggs were selling at BGN 0.36 per piece, down by 5.3%.

The price of rice went up by 1.5% to BGN 3.36/kg, while lentils’ - 0.7% to BGN 4.35/kg. The price of dry common beans increased by 1.9% to BGN 4.33/kg.

Sugar decreased in price by 3.7% to BGN 2.11/kg and sunflower oil went up by 1.5% to BGN 2.78/litre. Flour (type 500) remained the same at BGN 1.29/kg, while the price of butter from cow's milk increased by 0.8% to BGN 2,68 for a pack of 125 grammes.
