Almost 60% (59.75%) of IT companies in Bulgaria are Bulgarian-owned, while the remaining 40.25% have their headquarters abroad, according to data from Job Board, a specialized platform for IT professionals owned by DEV.BG.

The survey covered over 1,300 companies. The largest number of offices opened is in Sofia. They represent almost 64% percent of the total number of offices of technology companies in the country. Varna makes a very strong claim for the second place with 10.96%, only 0.06 percentage points behind Plovdiv.

Burgas, Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo are also enjoying interest in opening new IT company offices. А smaller number of branches are present in cities such as Pleven, Gabrovo, Blagoevgrad, Pernik, Stara Zagora, Kazanlak, Troyan, Shumen, among others.

Micro (with fewer than 10 experts) and small (with 10-30 experts) companies lead the ranking with over 30% presence at the expense of large (with more than 70 IT experts) and medium (with 31-70 specialists) businesses, which have about 15% for each category.

The analysis indicates that product companies dominate (896 in number), followed by consultancies (466), service providers (378) and software system implementers (also 378). In the DEV.BG platform, companies are assigned to one, two or several of the activities mentioned. That is why the total number of companies in this information exceeds 1,300 (the total number of participants in the sector analysis), the company writes.

According to the survey, in the teams of more than two-thirds of the companies in the DEV.BG Job Board, IT professionals account for more than 50% of all employees, while in the remaining nearly 30% of the companies they represent a smaller part of the team - up to 50%.
