Solvay Sodi has been present in Bulgaria for more than 25 years and one of its main activities is the production of raw materials for the glass industry. During this period, the company has invested more than BGN 1.6 billion in improving working conditions, the environment, expanding the company's capacity and energy efficiency, Solvay Sodi CEO Spiros Nomikos said during the fourth Business and Regions national conference. The theme of the discussion was sustainable development. The forum is organised by BGLOBAL magazine in partnership with the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Industrial Association and the Institute for Market Economics. BTA is a media partner of the event.

We are fulfilling all the imperatives of the times related to environmental protection requirements, environmentally friendly production, with a 90% reduction in emissions since 2005, Nomikos said.

He said the company participates in carbon trading and noted that it strives to be "the best soda producer that is the least environmentally damaging."

In the context of the green transition, the company is considering projects related to alternative fuels from waste. Nomikos pointed out that in Europe, such projects enjoy a lot of state aid or indirect European support, which is absent in Bulgaria and creates difficulties.

On the topic of communication with local authorities, Nomikos emphasized good communication, which is part of mutual trust. He pointed out that part of the tax revenue the company pays should go directly to the municipality where the company operates, in the context of the government's proposed changes to tax laws related to the increase in corporate tax for some large companies from 10% to 15% in connection with a global measure supported by the EU.

The company directly and indirectly employs 1,200 people, of which 500 are employees of the company and 700 are people related to the company's subcontractors.
