Wholesale prices of staple foods in Bulgaria remained basically unchanged in the business week from October 30 to November 3, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said. The index of wholesale food prices rose by 0.64% over the reporting week to reach 2.206 points. At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

In the outgoing week, the average wholesale price of greenhouse-grown cucumbers rose by 13.9% to BGN 2.29 per kilogramme. The price of tomatoes fell by 3.6% to BGN 3.26/kg. Potatoes rose by 6.7% to BGN 1.28/kg. Carrots fell by 0.8% to BGN 1.03/kg. The average wholesale price of imported onion went up by 2.1% to BGN 1.43/kg. Green peppers were traded at BGN 1.76/kg, up by 16.6%, and red peppers appreciated by 6.7% to BGN 2.22/kg. Cabbage was selling at BGN 0.94/kg.

The average wholesale price of imported apples decreased by 5.8% to BGN 1.80/kg. Lemons depreciated by 0.9% to BGN 2.29/kg. Bananas went up by 0.7% to BGN 2.91/kg. Oranges rose by 4.1% to BGN 3.28/kg. The price of grapes grew by 0.9% to BGN 2.27/kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 0.5% to BGN 11.42/kg. Yellow kashkaval cheese, type "Vitosha", dropped by 0.3% to BGN 17.35/kg. Yogurt, with fat content of 3% and over, was selling at BGN 1.15 for a cup of 400 g. Fresh milk, with 3% fat content, increased by 0.5% to BGN 2.19/litre.

Chicken fell by 1.6% to BGN 6.34/kg. Eggs (size M) appreciated by 1 stotinka to BGN 0.34 per piece.

The average wholesale price of rice fell by 1.3% to BGN 3.14/kg. Lentils went down by 0.7% to BGN 4.17/kg. Dry common beans dropped by 0.5% to BGN 4.12/kg. Sugar traded at BGN 2.42/kg. Sunflower oil depreciated by 3.7% to BGN 2.87/litre. Flour, type 500, fell by 4.3% to BGN 1.35/kg. Butter from cow's milk rose by 3.3% to BGN 2.52 for a pack of 125 g.
