site.btaBrucellosis Outbreak Detected on Farm in Southern Village of Benkovski

A brucellosis outbreak has been detected on a farm near the village of Benkovski in the southern Kirkovo Municipality, Benkovski Mayor Boryana Hazova told BTA on Wednesday.

She said 18 animals out of nearly 50 on the farm were culled during the day. The nearest farm is 2 km away, the mayor added.

The village hall Tuesday received a letter from the health authorities about positive blood samples. The samples were taken after the zoonotic disease was detected in milk samples.

Ali Durmushali, head of the Regional Food Safety Directorate, told BTA samples had been taken from all animals on the farm and only those which tested positive were culled, while the rest were re-sampled. Samples were also taken from the farm owner and contacts. Disinfection is underway.
