Operational Programme TRANSPORT 2014-2020 will provide funding for the extension of Sofia's metro network, the Bugas ring road and the deepening of the port there until the end of 2023, when the eligibility period for expenditure under the operational programme expires, said the government after its weekly meeting on Wednesday.

The government approved changes to the programme which allow funds to be reallocated from already approved projects that will not be fully implemented by the end of 2023. The incomplete projects are to be financed under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027 in order to ensure their full completion.

EUR 120 million from the operational programme have been transferred to the SAFE instrument, which was set up at European level to enable reimbursement of part of the compensation costs incurred by small and medium-sized enterprises. The funds have been disbursed under the National Measure for the Compensation of Non-Household Final Customers of Electricity.
