Sofia’s Vladislav Gramatik School is already producing electricity on its own, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova told BTA on Monday. Fandakova inspected at the school a newly-built system of solar panels. The system is installed on the roof and is based on a public private partnership.

“Investments in schools and kindergartens will continue and in this case we speak of photovoltaic panels, thermal pumps, etc.,” said Fandakova, adding that by 2030 RES sources will be installed in all public buildings where possible. Priority will be given to schools and kindergartens. “We have surveyed the roofs of all schools and kindergartens in order to establish where photovoltaic systems can be installed,” said Fandakova.

According to her, already there are two schools and over 20 kindergartens which have photovoltaic systems and investments continue. The Mayor cited the construction of a kindergarten in Kremikovtsi which will be heated with geothermal energy.
