A total of 50,491 items, most of them designer brand textiles, were seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo customs checkpoint, the Customs Regional Press Centre of in Svilengrad said Monday. The goods, which were seized on suspicion of infringing intellectual property rights, were found during inspections of four trucks entering Bulgaria from Turkiye.
In one of the cases, during a thorough inspection, customs officials found among the declared goods 34,546 textile products, most of them t-shirts and sportswear, 4,386 pairs of shoes and 57 bags bearing logos of well-known brands. In another lorry, inspectors found 6,180 textiles branded with images of well-known brands.
In two other trucks, a total of 5,322 undeclared garments bearing the brand names of world-famous brands were found. Since the beginning of 2023, the customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo have seized more than 320,000 items with registered trademarks.
According to the customs statistics, last year over 700 thousand items branded with the signs of global trademarks were seized at the checkpoint. The most frequently trafficked goods are textiles, footwear and perfumes.
