In the fourth trimester of 2022, local authorities issued building permits for 1,911 residential buildings with 10,203 homes in them and a floor area of 1,131,176 sq. m., 18 administrative buildings/offices with a floor area of 17,683 sq. m. and 1,183 other buildings with a floor area of 534,969 sq. m., the National Statistical Institute informed on February 3rd.

Compared to the previous trimester the number of building permits for residential buildings decreased by 11.5%, the number of homes in them by 30.6%, and their total floor area by 31.6%. There was a 28.6% increase of the newly issued building permits for administrative buildings with a 68.9% smaller floor area. The issued building permits for other types of buildings decreased by 2.5% and the floor area in them by 26%.

Compared to the fourth trimester of 2021, the number of issued building permits for new residential buildings increased by 0.1% but the homes in them decreased by 17.7% and their floor area - by 19.9%. The number of issued building permits for administrative buildings saw a decrease in both their number - by 45,5%, and their floor area - by 51.8%. The issued building permits for other types of buildings increased by 1%, while their floor area is 32.6% smaller.

The biggest number of building permits for new residential buildings were issued in the regions of Sofia (capital) - 321, Plovdiv - 290, Burgas - 261. The biggest number of new homes to be build is in the regions of Sofia (capital) - 5106, Plovdiv - 1677, Varna - 948.

During the fourth trimester of 2022 has begun the construction of 1,252 residential buildings with 6,627 homes in them and with a floor area of 760,178 sq. m., of 14 administrative buildings /offices with a floor area of 11 453 sq. m. and of 555 other buildings with a floor area of 363,469 sq. m.

Compared to the previous trimester the residential buildings under construction are 19.7% less, the homes in them 24.9% less, and their total floor area 29.7% smaller. The residential buildings under construction and their total floor area saw an increase of 27.3 and 174.5% respectively. The number of the other types of buildings under construction decreased by 17%, as well as their total floor area by 17.9%.

Compared to the fourth trimester of 2021, the new residential buildings under construction decreased by 5.1%, the homes in them - by 9.7%, as well as their total floor area by 12.8%. The number of administrative buildings under construction saw no change, but their floor area decreased by 30.7%. The number of other types of buildings under construction decreased by 8.6%, as well as their total floor area by 30.1%.

The construction of the biggest number of new buildings has started in the regions of Burgas (205 residential and 37 other buildings); Plovdiv (200 residential, 3 administrative and 62 other buildings); Sofia (160 residential, 3 administrative and 19 other buildings).
