site.btaFood Price Index Up by Nearly 1% in One Week

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by 0.96% to 2.321 points over the past week, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. Last week, the index stood at 2.299 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

In the vegetables category, zucchini saw the sharpest price increase, rising by 17.11% to BGN 1.78 per kilogram. They were followed by cucumbers, which went up by 14.91% to BGN 3.16/kg. Tomatoes rose by 3.19% to BGN 2.91/kg. Red peppers went up by 1.27% to BGN 2.23/kg, while green peppers fell by 2.78% to BGN 1.89/kg. The most significant drop was seen in onions, which declined by 7.97% to BGN 0.97/kg. Potatoes also became cheaper, down by 6.19% to BGN 0.97/kg, followed by cabbage, which depreciated by 5.95% to BGN 0.98/kg, and carrots, down by 4.17% to BGN 1.15/kg.

In the fruit category, bananas were the only ones to become more expensive, up by 1.15% to BGN 2.82/kg. Apples saw the largest drop, down by 6.35% to BGN 2.30/kg. Prices also declined for watermelons, down by 3.28% to BGN 0.53/kg, lemons, down by 3.08% to BGN 3.71/kg, and grapes, down by 2.27% to BGN 3.10/kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 0.67% to BGN 12.10/kg. Vitosha-type yellow kashkaval cheese went down by 0.03% to BGN 18.03/kg. Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) dropped by 1% to BGN 1.38 per 400 grams. Milk fell by 0.26% to BGN 2.31 per litre. Butter from cow's milk went down by 1.07% to BGN 3.13 for 125 grams.

Frozen poultry rose by 2.82% to BGN 7.14/kg, while eggs (size M) increased slightly by 0.53% to BGN 0.38 per piece wholesale.

The price of rice declined by 1.9% to BGN 3.30/kg. Flour (type 500) fell by 1.08% to BGN 1.46/kg. Sunflower oil depreciated by 4.88%, selling for BGN 3.20 per litre. The price of sugar rose by 2.02% to BGN 1.82/kg. Mature beans fell by 1.99% to BGN 4.14/kg, while lentils increased by 1.88% to BGN 4.12/kg.
