The Mission Gallery of the State Cultural Institute with the Minister of Foreign Affairs will host an immersive exhibition “Tesseract – Universe Geometry” by Bulgarian artist Valentin Bakardjiev, who lives in the Netherlands. The official opening will take place on September 10, the Institute told BTA.
“The exhibition by Valentin Bakardjiev transcends the boundaries of time, matter, and dimensions. By combining traditional weaving with contemporary photographic techniques, he invites the audience on a journey that is both emotional and conceptual. At the center of the exhibition is the tesseract, a four-dimensional cube, explored both as a shape and as a metaphor,” the team said.
Through this enigmatic symbol, the artist delves into themes such as expanded perception, inner transformation, and the layers that make up our reality and the worlds beyond it, the team added.
The exhibition features two types of works handwoven compositions made from indigo-dyed corn leaves, and photographs of natural textures, printed on aluminum.
The project is carried out with the financial support of the National Culture Fund and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria. The event is also part of the State Cultural Institute’s 2025 program, marking the 20th anniversary of its establishment.
Valentin Bakardjiev was born in Sliven, Bulgaria. He completed his education in Bulgaria and later lived and worked in the Dominican Republic and Italy. He is currently based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Bakardjiev has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Paris, Amsterdam, Geneva, Rijswijk, Toyota City, Chicago, and other cities. His works have been the subject of publications and lectures, focusing on sustainable materials and their use in art.
