The leadership of Sofia’s Technical University on Friday awarded a diploma to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) for its comprehensive coverage of the activities of the university. The award was presented by Rector Prof. Ivan Kralov to BTA Secretary General Yulia Sokolova at a ceremony at the university.

"It is a real honour for me to accept this award, it is also for my colleagues from the LIK service who cover news related to culture, education and science every day. This type of meaningful partnerships we will continue to make," said Yulia Sokolova, accepting the award.

Sofia’s Technical University is the largest university in this field both in Bulgaria and the region. For 80 years it has set the standards for higher technical education and research in this field, but it is also one of the research universities in Bulgaria, which is also part of the European University of Technology. The Technical University is the only university that has two leading technological schools in its structure - the Technology School Electronic Systems in Sofia and the National School for Computer Systems and Technologies in Pravets. This is a successful practice that is being transferred all over the world, said in his speech Kralov.

“In recent years, we have established centres of competence and excellence with modern, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the Technical University is the university that has the highest revenue from technology and knowledge transfer to business and industry. We are even more pleased that young people are recognizing us and the number of prospective students, enrolled students and especially students who are here using the halls and aspiring to become true professionals is increasing. In the last three years alone, seven of our graduating seniors have stayed on as researchers in the labs, a testament to the sustainability of research,” he noted.

“All these successes cannot be visible without the media, without the real, timely and comprehensive coverage of our development, of the new innovative technologies and solutions that we apply and raise the technical elite of the nation,” said Prof. Kralov. He said that almost 150,000 engineers have graduated from the Technical University and over 35,000 specialists with higher education. This is the backbone of our industry, but our goal is much higher, we want to create a knowledge society, a society of knowledgeable and capable people who will build the future of our country tomorrow. There is no nation or society that can prosper without knowledge, without cutting-edge technology and its application in practice,” said Prof. Kralov.

At the ceremony other media were also honored. The award ceremony celebrated the efforts and commitment of the media in promoting the scientific and academic successes of the University.
