Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev signed a cooperation agreement with the National Association of Volunteers in Bulgaria, BNR reported Tuesday. The Association was represented by its Board Chairman Yassen Tsvetkov.
Mitev stressed that people will be informed about the work of the volunteers through the BNR programmes and on the radio's website. There will also be a joint column with the association that will talk about volunteer work.
"The signing of this contract opens up many opportunities for cooperation between BNR and the National Association of Volunteers. They are often the first people to reach the scene of a natural disaster, and the people who can most quickly pass on information about what is happening, what is needed, whether there are people affected, which institutions could get involved to help. In general, the most useful information at any such severe event," said Mitev.
"Even in the digital age in which we find ourselves, radio as a medium will remain the first and closest helper of the common man when disaster strikes. It is no coincidence that we instruct people to always be prepared with portable devices that are tuned not to any radio, but to the national radio programmes, because adequate information should be expected from there," Tsvetkov said.
The National Association of Volunteers has existed for ten years with the aim of helping to manage emergencies, to promote civic activism, to prevent risk and to create and strengthen an active network of volunteers.
