Croatia’s Oldest String Quartet to Perform in Sofia

Croatia’s oldest professional string quartet will give a concert at Sofia’s Bulgaria Hall on September 16, the Croatian Embassy said.

Founded as the first-ever professional ensemble on the Croatian music scene, the Zagreb Quartet gave its first concert on April 25, 1919. Besides Europe, it has toured extensively the United States, the former Soviet Union, Russia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. From very early on they also began to collaborate with other prominent musicians.

Since 2017 the quartet is made up of Martin Krpan (violin), Davor Philips (violin), Hrvoje Philips (viola) and Martin Jordan (cello).
