The Caretaker Cabinet Wednesday adopted a decision to provide a state guarantee for the temporary exhibition In the Eye of the Storm. Secession in Ukraine, which will be held at the Palace National Art Gallery from October 11, 2024, to January 19, 2025. The exhibition will present 49 works owned by the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv and museums in Lviv, Polgava, Dnipro and Odesa.

The provision of a state guarantee for exhibitions is a widely accepted European practice that reduces the costs of organizing exhibitions, stimulates bilateral cooperation between museums and the mobility of collections.

The works were rescued from the war zone with the help of an art collector, Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, the founder of Museums for Ukraine. All the works are made in the style of secession art, a movement that culminated in Europe in around 1900 and extended to the territory of today’s Ukraine. Ukrainian art from the late 19th - early 20th centuries is of special interest to the Bulgarian public because of the obvious similarities in the development of modernism in the two countries. The works are of very high artistic value, with an insurance estimate of EUR 10,985,000.

The exhibition is а part of the National Gallery's efforts to develop cooperation and significantly increase exchanges in the visual arts. By presenting this project, the National Gallery participates in the protection of Ukraine's movable cultural property.
