site.bta27th Edition of Velko Kanev International Theatre Festival of Amateur Comedy Theatres to Be Held in Topolovgrad Sept. 23-29

The 27th edition of the Velko Kanev International Theatre Festival of Amateur Comedy Theatres, Pantomime and Satire will be held from September 23 to 29 in the southern town of Topolovgrad, said Trifon Trifonov, chair of the local community centre, which organizes the festival.

Out of a total of 27 productions that were submitted, a jury selected 12 productions by Bulgarian theatre companies and five from the Bulgarian diaspora in Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine, Italy and Turkey. The selection committee was chaired by Gergana Yordanova from the Culture Ministry.

"By attending the festival, Bulgarians who live abroad get the opportunity to expand their contacts with compatriots in our country", said Trifonov, adding that the other important aim of the festival is to stimulate Bulgarian citizens abroad to maintain their Bulgarian language and Bulgarian culture in their communities.

All the theatre ensembles will also perform in Svilengrad, Lyubimets, Harmanli, Elhovo, Galabovo and Radnevo.
