A concert in Sofia headlined by Stefan Valdobrev and The Usual Suspects and DARA will mark World Environment Day on Wednesday. The event will start at 6 p.m. at Kino Cabana, near the National Palace of Culture, the Ministry of Environment and Water said on Tuesday.

The event is organized by the Operational Programme Environment (OPEN) General Directorate within the Ministry of Environment and Water. Expected to attend are caretaker Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva, the head of the OPEN Managing Authority, Galina Simeonova, and the head of the Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovenia Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, Agnes Monfre. On display will be sculptures from an art installation and an exhibition of photographs and information about successful environmental projects under the Programme.

World Environment Day was established by a United Nations (UN) General Assembly resolution in 1973, following the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. The 2024 day focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan "Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration."
