The 7th Tundzha Folklore Festival opened in Elhovo on Friday. Over 1,600 participants are expected to gather in the two festival days, with dancers, musicians and folk music performers of all ages from across the country planned to perform at the festival.

The festival is organized by Elhovo Municipality and the local community centre. It aims to promote and preserve the authentic folklore along the Tundzha river, as well as the Thracian and Strandzha folklore regions. "I wish all participants health and success. Have fun from the heart," said Elhovo Mayor Petar Gendov.

"Our folklore is so rich - you see the variety here, from costumes, dance and singing formations, to individual performers. This is Bulgaria's great love and we must maintain it that way," said choreographer Maya Todorova.

"This is a wonderful holiday in Elhovo. I believe that the festival will last for many more years," added Tasho Barulov, chair of the jury that will judge the perfomances at the festival.
