The Perunika women's choir for Bulgarian chants celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala concert at the Söderhöjdskyrkan Church in Stockholm, the Bulgarian Embassy in Sweden said on its website. The choir singers are Swedes who are brought together by their love for Bulgarian music and culture.
The hall was packed and over 150 people, mostly Swedish citizens but also Bulgarians, had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Bulgarian folklore. Ambassador Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski was a special guest of the event.
The choir is under the direction of its founder and distinguished Bulgarian conductor Mihail Delchev.
The hour-long programme included works by Dobri Hristov, Nikolai Kaufman, Krassimir Kurkchiyski, Filip Kutev and Georgi Andreev.
"The choir have been successfully spreading the Bulgarian musical heritage for a decade now, performing songs in Bulgarian language with different stylistic characteristics that reflect the richness of the ethnographic and folk music regions of Bulgaria," the Embassy wrote in its post.
