Bulgaria can contribute to Japan in the development of technology because the country has reached a high level in this area and in the field of artificial intelligence, Japanese Ambassador to Bulgaria Hisashi Michigami said during a public lecture, themed "Rediscovering Japan", which he gave on Thursday in the auditorium of Sofia University. 

In his words, the commonalities between Bulgaria and Japan are the long historical past of the two countries, the respect for traditional values and the development of ecological economics.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vyara Nikolova, Head of the Department of Japanese Studies at Sofia University, said that by knowing and remembering the past and history one is aware of their present and future. She expressed her wish to expand exchange in the field of education and science.

Michigami's lecture was dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the beginning of official contacts between Bulgaria and Japan in 1909, the 85th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1939 and the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations in 1959.
