site.btaStructura Gallery to Host Exhibition with Works by Artists of Different Generations

An exhibition titled "The Better Part of Us" will bring together works by 12 artists of different generations and periods, from 1992 to the present day. The exhibition will run from February 29 to April 4 at Structura Gallery, the organizers said.

It will be curated by Maria Vassileva and feature works by Boryana Rossa and Oleg Mavromatti, Dimitar Traychev, Kalin Serapionov, Kiril Prashkov, Pravdoliub Ivanov, among others.

All works deal with different manifestations of violence: from terror against humans and animals, through political regulation and management of society (which Michel Foucault has called "biopolitics"), the fearful manifestations of nationalism, the role of the toxic media environment and the manipulations of the film industry, to war as its extreme.

In the mid-1990s, Pravdoliub Ivanov created various flag works influenced by the nearby military conflict on the territory of neighbouring Yugoslavia. Kalin Serapionov's Take Care of Your Weapon Like You Would Take Care of Your Toothbrush (1995) was created as a response to the various forms of violence that occurred daily in Bulgaria in the mid-1990s.
