The Sofia Opera and Ballet has unveiled the programme of the eighth edition of the “Opera on Peaks – Belogradchik Rocks” festival. It will open on August 4 with the premiere of “Madama Butterfly” by Giacomo Puccini. The opera festival is organized by the Sofia Opera and Ballet in partnership with the Belogradchik Municipality, Deputy Mayor Rossen Mladenov told BTA.
“Madama Butterfly” will be performed on August 4, 5 and 6.
On August 18, 19 and 20 “Medee” by Luiggi Cherubini staged by Italian director Marco Gandini will have its premiere, The premiere will mark the 100th birth anniversary of Maria Callas.
The ballet productions “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff (August 11 and 13) and Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus (August 12) will wrap up the eight edition of the opera festival.
Plamen Kartaloff who is the festival’s artistic director told BTA that the festival continues a a long-lasting tradition.
Among the unique Belogradchik Rocks, each year the festival gathers hundreds of lovers of opera and ballet from all around the world. Said Deputy Mayor Rossen Mladenov. He said that the assembly of the stage and the auditorium with 600 seats will begin in early July.
