An exhibition of Mimi Dobreva's landscapes painted in the technique of gouache on paper will be unveiled at Sofia's Astry Gallery on February 8. It is called Gardens and consists of 32 landscapes in small and medium format, created in the last few years, the organizers said.
There is no fiction in the landscapes as they are made in nature, but the author's approach to colours is very specific, analytical and mostly fauvist, the Astry Gallery said.
Dobreva describes painting with gouache in nature as relaxing. "It is a journey during which I could feel and explore the arrangement and intrigue of the forms and try to understand the colour ratios", she adds.
Mimi Dobreva was born in 1953 in Popovo (Northeastern Bulgaria). She graduated from the National Academy of Art in 1977, and has participated in many artistic projects in Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Croatia. Her paintings are featured in the collections of the National Art Gallery and the Sofia City Art Gallery, as well as in private collections in Bulgaria, UK, Belgium, Hungary, USA, and Japan.
