For another year in a row the Veliko Tarnovo University was an ambassador of the Bulgarian language outside the borders of Bulgaria, the university's press centre said on Thursday.

For a second consecutive year the Summer School in Bulgarian language was held at the University of Tirana - the first such school in the Republic of Albania. It was hosted by the Department of Slavic and Balkan Languages at the Faculty of Foreign Language Studies of the University of Tirana. The summer school was supported by the Veliko Tarnovo University with textbooks and faculty participation under the Erasmus+ mobility project between the two universities.

From July 1 to 23, 2021 the lecturers Assoc. Raki Bello and Dr. Miranda Bello, led the in-person classes with two groups of students - beginners and advanced. Lectures were delivered to the students by Prof. Slavi Dimitrov and Dr. Tatiana Dimitrova from the Veliko Tarnovo University. Lecturers from the Bulgarian University of Blagoevgrad and the Albanian Universities of Korca and Tirana participated in the classes.

A total of 25 participants in the Bulgarian language courses (17 in level A1 and 8 in level A2) received their certificates for participation in the lessons. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Language Studies, prof. Prof. Esmeralda Cromida, Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Ogerta Corruti.

The Ambassador of Bulgaria in Tirana, Momchil Reichesкi, gave a lecture on the topic of "Bulgarian-Albanian diplomatic relations", and Maria Peeva, Attaché at the Embassy, presented the topic "Bulgaria and Albania - cooperation in the field of education, radio-television programs, cooperation projects".

The study of the Bulgarian language is among the priorities in the internationalization strategy of the Veliko Tarnovo University. The interest in the Bulgarian language in Albania is due both to our good neighbourly relations and the Bulgarian minority in this country, the university said.
