For a second year in a row, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) launched a campaign to encourage young people in Central and Eastern Europe to start their own environmental initiatives, WWF Bulgaria said in a press release here on Tuesday.

The event took place in the city of Brno in the Czech Republic. Participants were young people from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and the Czech Republic. They exchanged experiences on pressing environmental issues and presented ideas for mitigating the negative effects of climate change.

The Climate Heroes project targets young people aged 15-24 and aims to raise awareness about the climate crisis and the consequences of wasteful consumption at both local and global level. The project trains 120 young people from Central and Eastern Europe to turn them into "climate leaders" of their societies to engage more like-minded people.

The Climate Heroes project is implemented by WWF Bulgaria, WWF Romania, WWF Adria Serbia, the United Nations Association of Bulgaria, and the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation with the financial support of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
