A Turkish man identified as M.B. (57) has been detained and charged for smuggling methamphetamine, said the Plovdiv Appellate Prosecution Office on Tuesday, the Customs Agency said Tuesday. He tried to smuggle 0.850 kg of methamphetamine in a truck and was caught at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on September 27.
The substance was hidden in a truck coming from Iran and bound for Ukraine via Turkiye and Bulgaria.
The Haskovo Regional Prosecution Office has opened pre-trial proceedings.
The Turkish truck driver was arrested for 72 hours.
The prosecutors will seek to make the custody indefinite.
