The National Early Warning and Public Alert System will be tested from 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 1, the Ministry of Interior said on Tuesday. The BG-ALERT system will also be tested from 11:00 to 11:30 am, according to the system's website.
The test of the National Early Warning System will take place in Sofia, Burgas, Varna, Kardzhali, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Smolyan, Vratsa and Stara Zagora, in the municipal centres of these regions, as well as in municipalities in Vidin, Pernik and Yambol provinces, and in settlements within a 30 km zone around the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, the Ministry said. The system is tested twice a year, on the first workday of April and October, through activation of acoustic signals. The signals will be accompanied by voice announcements.
The exercise is conducted to check the technical condition of the National Early Warning and Public Alert System and to train the population, the Interior Ministry added.
