Health Minister Silvi Kirilov has approved the dismissal of Dr. Dimitar Iliev from the position of Deputy Director of the Executive Agency for Medical Supervision (EAMS), the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The decision follows a report by EAMS Executive Director of EAMS Ivanka Dineva commissioned by the Minister, which confirmed inappropriate behavior by Iliev, including making offensive remarks and spreading false information regarding an alleged invitation from the German Federal Government for EAMS representatives to participate in the World Transplant Games.
After reviewing the facts, Minister Kirilov approved the Executive Director’s proposal to release Iliev from his position.
In implementing this measure, the Minister emphasized that the processes of organ donation and transplantation require a high level of trust and strict adherence to ethical standards. Any act of disrespect or dissemination of false information undermines confidence in this sensitive system and is unacceptable.
In addition, following a report submitted to the Ministry regarding delays by EAMS in handling a complaint, Minister Kirilov issued an order for the Inspectorate of the Ministry to conduct a review. The commission found that the claims regarding failure to comply with legally mandated deadlines for initiating an investigation were valid.
As a result, a recommendation was issued to the Executive Director of EAMS to begin disciplinary proceedings against the officials who failed to fulfill their duties. In this case, it involves the other Deputy Executive Director of the Agency, Radka Nikolova, who was assigned responsibilities related to oversight of medical activities and patient rights.
Minister Kirilov expects to be informed within two weeks about the actions taken by the Agency’s Executive Director in response to the recommendations, the statement said.
