Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Chair Atanas Atanassov said on Wednesday on the sidelines of Parliament that Bulgaria has laid the final brick in its membership of the European Union, marking the completion of its European integration process, the Yes, Bulgaria press service said here on Wednesday.
Atanassov added that this is something his party has put a lot of effort in, regardless of the fact that it is in opposition. He was clear that united efforts are needed to combat people’s fears, as there is a significant amount of disinformation.
Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria MP Martin Dimitrov described the day as historic for Bulgaria – one to be remembered, to be written in textbooks, and which brings the country’s European integration to an end. Dimitrov was adamant that, as of Wednesday, Bulgaria is at the core of the EU.
Democratic Bulgaria representatives reiterated that tabling a vote of no confidence is a priority, but it will only be carried out based solely on a decision by the CC-DB parliamentary group, taking into account all risks and opportunities. According to Yes, Bulgaria! Co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev, this should not take place before September, when the grounds for the motion will also include budget implementation, together with smuggling and corruption, to ensure it is truly solid and serious.
“We will hold a discussion and make a decision within the parliamentary group. Our assessment is that conditions for a vote of no confidence in the government will not exist before September this year,” Mirchev said.
“We are convinced that a vote of no confidence is the strongest tool of the opposition. As a systemic political force, we cannot allow ourselves to devalue it,” Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Deputy Chair Yordan Ivanov said, adding that submitting a vote of no confidence immediately after a major national success, such as witnessed today, would itself be an act of devaluation.
The European Commission and the European Central Bank have confirmed that Bulgaria meets all the necessary criteria to adopt the euro on January 1, 2026. Their assessments, released Wednesday, emphasize Bulgaria’s stable economy and readiness for integration, with formal EU approval processes to follow.
