After the Vit river in Teteven overflowed, a crisis headquarters, convened by Mayor Madlena Boyadzhieva on Monday, decided there is no need to declare a state of disaster currently.

"The situation is complicated, but I would not say it is critical. There are no endangered people, no endangered homes," Boyadzhieva said.

She added that it had rained continuously in Teteven for more than three days. The Vit River has burst its banks in one place in the Vitev district. A dyke is currently being erected. According to her, the level of the river is being monitored together with the local Fire Safety and Population Protection Service.

In the village of Bulgarski Izvor, the Kalnik river has left its bed in several places, but there are no houses in the area, said the mayor.

The Sopot reservoir is being released in a controlled manner, Lovech Regional Deputy Governor Nely Chitinova, told BTA. According to Chitinova, a day ago the Lesidren River was diverted to flow into the Kalnik River, and this is what raised the river levels.

Chitinova said that the reservoir in the village of Malka Zhelyazna has been emptied and is awaiting repairs.

In Troyan, the level of the Osam River has risen from 39 cm to 189 cm, said Mayor Donka Mihaylova, adding that it significantly exceeds its usual levels. She said that no people or buildings are at risk on the territory of the municipality.

According to Mihaylova, there was a rockslide in the area of the Troyan Pass, but the roads are passable.
