Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev and Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu discussed the busy agenda of bilateral relations, including the two countries’ excellent ties in energy and Bulgaria’s support for Moldova’s efforts in energy diversification, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia reported on Sunday, covering talks between Georgiev and Grosu in Chisinau.

The guest said that Bulgaria’s relations with Moldova are based on a deep historical and cultural bond and are developing in a spirit of mutual respect and partnership.

The two officials concurred that the Bulgarian community in Moldova should be strongly involved in the affairs of Moldova’s society. In this way, they believe, the two peoples will build upon their traditionally close relations.

Georgiev said: “Bulgaria is grateful to the Moldovan people and the institutions of Moldova for the conditions they have created to help preserve the national, cultural and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian community in the country. This community of about 60,000 people plays a significant role in strengthening relations between the two countries and serves as an important bridge in bilateral ties.”

Georgiev and Grosu acknowledged the importance of interparliamentary dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy as substantial factors for developing bilateral partnership. They stressed the role of cooperation between the two national parliaments through exchange of expertise and good practice and via active communication in the framework of international parliamentary forums.
