The National Taxi Syndicate has appealed to the European Commission (EC) and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) to refuse to impose regulatory measures in relation to the increase in the premiums for compulsory third party liability insurance for taxis in Bulgaria, the trade union said Wednesday.
The organization noted that a month ago EIOPA criticized the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) regarding the supervision of the case of the bankruptcy of a Bulgarian-owned insurance company in Romania, which caused turmoil in the local insurance market.
On December 20, taxi drivers took part in a protest march in the centre of Sofia, having gathered in the area of the Bulgarian National Bank. The protesters also submitted a protest note against the increase in the prices of compulsory civil liability insurance.
