A meeting between GERB-UDF and There is Such a People (TISP) will happen once TISP receives an official invitation, TISP's Pavela Mitova told journalists in Parliament on Monday. Mitova was responding to a question about the clarity of talks with GERB-UDF, the largest political group in the National Assembly, regarding potential support for a government under the first mandate.
Mitova said that TISP leader Slavi Trifonov has said that TISP will not negotiate or sit at the same table with the group led by Delyan Peevski's Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF)-New Beginning. "As for the policies we think a future government should rally around a right-wing economic vision for the country," Mitova said, adding that there is currently a noticeable decline in financial stability.
She added that TISP has incorporated into its program the necessity for the Commission for Protection of Competition to fully assume its responsibilities concerning food prices.
When asked if the condition for Boyko Borissov not to be prime minister still stands, Mitova confirmed that it does.
"We have said many times that, in our view, Boyko Borissov should not be prime minister, nor should any other political leaders from different formations," she said.
Mitova said that a future government should be based on expertise. "First, the political groups need to agree on the topics that unite them and set deadlines for implementation, so citizens can hold them accountable. Only then should we find the right people to execute this program," she added.
She noted that political groups should first find common ground rather than focus on dividing lines. "We have seen enough red lines in recent parliaments. We need to concentrate on what unites us. We demonstrated this with the third mandate in the previous National Assembly by finding common ground with other political groups. These discussions can serve as the initial step for future talks. I believe the meetings should take place in an expert format," she said regarding the planned discussions with GERB-UDF.
Asked whether TISP would support CC-DB's demand to include the main points of their cordon sanitaire declaration in a future coalition agreement with GERB-UDF, Mitova said, "We have always kept our promises. Since we backed their declaration, we will honour our commitments to it. Now, it's up to our colleagues from CC-DB to do everything possible to pass this law."
Mitova also said that TISP wants a full review of the Election Code. "We have submitted proposals, and they support our initiative to clean up the "dead souls" [deceased voters and people who no longer have the right to vote still being on the lists] from the electoral rolls. I hope for reciprocity," she added about the upcoming discussions.
